I have strategically named the following yoga sequences with Sanskrit words. The reason for this is because for the general population, these words are foreign to them. When we say or hear unfamiliar sounds, we become more alert. This inspires an awakening that brings your whole being to a higher frequency. This will not only wake us up from our zombie-like sleeping state, but it will also help us increase our energetic vibration to manifest what it is we seek in life.

“Knowledge Through Suffering”

Vedana is the Sanksrit word which means, knowledge through suffering. This reminds us that our greatest lessons are the ones that come from the hardest experiences. Through our most challenging times, we find our most glorious rewards. This style of yoga is a unique design which is the first of its kind! I know this because I created it! I call it Kali Do Yoga. The word “kali” is taken from Filipino martial arts stick fighting. The word “do” means, the way.

The class is a fusion of yoga, stick fighting, traditional Chinese medicine philosophies, and meditation. Although, the class may seem intense it’s actually very relaxing. The stick is used as massage and stretching tool, rather than a weapon.

In this yoga sequence, you’ll need a dowel or stick that is around 71 cm. The stick at first is foreign to the body, but as your ability increases, it becomes an extension to your body. As you learn to move with ease and grace with the stick.

“One Who Says YES to Life”

“Astika” is the Sanskrit word which means, someone who says “yes” to life. It’s the difference of being an optimist or a pessimist. This Yoga Warrior routine is a little challenging. The focus is to lubricate the joints, increase strength in the arms and core, and to enhance a body/mind connection. When you get used to these movements, you will be able to adjust the intensity to a more challenging level if you need.

“Master of Self”

“Swami” is the Sanksrit word that translates to “master of Self.” This is a very important word that I share with my clients and also something I apply in my personal life. To become a master of Oneself means to be able to realize your true gifts and maximize your highest potential in this lifetime. Too often we focus on our perceived shortcomings and negate our innate gifts. In addition, to master your Self means to move your body with grace, ease, strength, and confidence. To become the Swami means to balanced your “3 jewels,” mind, body, and spirit.

“Living Nearer to Yourself.”

“Upawas” literally means to fast, but the intention behind the word has nothing to do with food or diet. It means, “living nearer to yourself.” The relevance of this word is that it is meant to teach us to connect to our own selves. We live in our bodies our entire lives, and yet we move as if it’s foreign to us. Connecting to yourself emotionally, physically, and energetically will make you whole and composed in all aspects of your life.
